Eyelid Rejuvenation Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Your eyes are usually the first thing that people notice about your appearance. Loose skin over your eyes can make you look tired, sad, or older than you really are. Fatty deposits cause your upper eyelids to sag, and these deposits along with excess eyelid skin can partially block your peripheral vision.
Fortunately, through an eyelid rejuvenation procedure called blepharoplasty, our doctors can help restore you to a more youthful, alert, and healthy look. Using local anesthetic and sometimes a mild sedative, the doctor will remove the excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissue in your upper eyelid. The incisions are made along the natural folds in the skin so that with the passage of time they become almost imperceptible.
Minor bruising and swelling is common after the procedure and will abate; post-operative discomfort is relatively mild. Most patients experience a marked improvement in the appearance of their eyes after blepharoplasty. This procedure is performed by both Dr. Alul and Dr. Buehler and is done in the comfort of our own office.
With certain people loose skin over the eyelids can actually start to affect functional vision. In those cases, our doctors can determine if the procedure may be deemed "medically necessary"—and therefore covered by your insurance—with the help of a test called a visual field.
