About Dr. Lewis

E. Winter Lewis, OD, FAAO has worked in Bend and Corvallis as an optometric physician since 2002. He is active in the Central Oregon Optometric Association, and served as President from 2006-08. He is very experienced in eye disease and dry eye management, as well as providing comprehensive eye care.

Dr. Lewis attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then attended Pacific College of Optometry where he received his Doctorate of Optometry in 2000. Dr. Lewis completed his internship at OMNI Eye Services and Arcata Optometric Services and his residency medical eye care at Portland Veterans Hospital in 2001.

Dr. Lewis has participated in several research projects for both dry eye management and glaucoma treatment. In 2007 he was a participant in a FDA phase III study involving a potential new anti-inflammatory dry eye drop still pending final development. In 2009 he participated in a post-market study of a glaucoma drop with a new preservative that may reduce dry eye complications.

Dr. Lewis is involved with the non-profit organization Amigos, whose members travel to impoverished areas around the world and provides free optometric services to both adults and children.

"I greatly enjoy the practice of optometry. In particular, I find it extremely rewarding when I can identify treatable vision disorders in young children so that they may be given the opportunity to succeed academically. 

"In my personal time I am frequently out on our Central Oregon roads training for local and state sanctioned bike races as a member of the InFocus Eye Care/Greenridge Physical Therapy bike team. Backpacking and skiing are also two of my hobbies which I share with my wife and two young children."
