PRK Refractive Surgery

Photo-refractive keratectomy, or PRK, is an alternative eye surgery solution for patients who do not meet the requirements for LASIK surgery. Like LASIK, PRK is used to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In fact, PRK surgery differs only slightly from LASIK surgery. Instead creating a flap, Dr. Ida Alul or Dr. Patricia Buehler simply removes the epithelium, the top layer of tissue. The excimer laser is used to reshape your cornea.

The healing time for PRK surgery is slightly longer than required for LASIK. You may take over the counter medications to help relieve any discomfort in the first few days following surgery.
