If you are ready for reduced dependence on glasses and contacts with bladeless custom LASIK surgery at InFocus Eye Care, you should first understand what to expect from this type of refractive surgery. LASIK vision correction surgery is safe and effective. The LASIK procedure itself only takes about ten minutes per eye, and our board-certified eye surgeons use the latest bladeless LASIK technology to ensure maximum safety, and precision.
Like any surgery, there is a process for preparing for and recovering from LASIK, but with bladeless LASIK surgery at InFocus Eye Care, that recovery process is safe and relatively short. Our doctors will work with you during your free LASIK consultation to make sure any questions or concerns you have about the surgery are addressed.
When you come to InFocus Eye Care for a LASIK evaluation, we will provide a thorough dilated eye exam to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery. During this evaluation we will ensure that you are in good general health, have healthy eyes and have a sufficiently thick cornea to support the flap necessary for LASIK. If your corneas are too thin for LASIK, you may still be a candidate for laser PRK surgery. For patients who wear contact lenses, it is necessary to be out of contacts for a period of time prior to surgery. The specific amount of time varies depending on the type of contacts worn, and will be discussed in detail at the consultation appointment.
We use advanced corneal topography software to create detailed maps of your eyes. This process is painless, and allows our doctors to customize your surgery and provide you with the most effective procedure possible.
Prior to the procedure we will discuss payment options with you. Many patients choose to take advantage of interest free financing options offered through CareCredit.
LASIK surgery generally takes about 10 minutes per eye. First your eye is numbed using topical anesthetic eye drops. Once you are comfortable, your surgeon utilizes the state-of-the-art Ziemer Femto LDV laser to create a flap on your cornea. Next, your LASIK surgeon uses the equally advanced Alcon WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q excimer laser to gently reshape your cornea to correct your nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
After a brief period of rest, you are able to leave our office. Remember, you will need a relative or friend to drive you home after your procedure. We recommend that you go home and rest for the remainder of the day.
The best thing to help your eyes feel comfortable after LASIK surgery is to get plenty of rest. Some mild discomfort, scratchiness, and sensitivity may be present for the first few days, which can easily be relieved with over the counter medications. It is medically important that you attend your scheduled post-operative appointments with your doctor. Our surgeons see all LASIK patients the very next day following surgery. We also see you approximately one week and one month after surgery.
You should be able to return to work within two days, but we recommend you avoid strenuous exercise and activities for a one week period to minimize strain on your eyes.
For many patients, vision improvement is noticeable by the very next day. For others, it may take up to a few months for complete enhancement to be noticeable. Many of our LASIK patients experience eyesight of 20/20 or better after LASIK. Not everyone’s eyes can be perfectly corrected, so some patients may still require reading glasses or contact lenses for some activities after LASIK.
Complications from LASIK Surgery are very rare. Carefully following all of your doctor’s pre and post-operative instructions and providing plenty of time to rest will significantly reduce your risks.
